How not to get hurt skateboarding
Well there are a few methods. But you don’t really need padding for street skating only get them for ramp, pipe, bowl, pipe, pool skating. But first things first. Get your self some proper knee/elbow padding from a legit company and not paddings from toy stores or retail supermarkets. Second thing is to get multi-impact helmet, here read this article
“Skateboard helmets
The Skateboard helmets now on the market are mostly bicycle helmets in the classic skate style. They are fine for bike riding, as long as the sticker inside certifies that they meet the CPSC standard. If you need a multi-impact helmet for aggressive, trick, extreme skating or skateboarding with daily crashes, look for a true multi-impact skate model that has a sticker inside saying it meets ASTM F1492. A search for “dual certified” on this page will bring them up. Beware of some inferior models still available in skate shops that only meet a feeble European EN standard. The CPSC regulation covers only bicycle helmets, and there is no US law that says a skate helmet has to meet any standard whatsoever. Fortunately the selection of dual certified skate/bike helmets began expanding during the 2004 season. The biggest news for skateboarders is still the revamping of the Pro Tec line in 2004 with a new foam that is a vast improvement over most of the earlier Pro Tec designs.”
After that you’ll need to learn the knee slide. This is where you slide on your knee pads when you fall or bail from a trick. Take your time, start from the flat ground working up to transions then vert. Always lean back when doing this. You surely don’t wanna stop suddenly and plant your face into the ramp. The next thing is always staying alert on what you are doing. Don’t go day dreaming when you’re frontside carve grinding the 10 foot bowl. The next thing you’ll see when you wake up is the roof of the ambulace and that’s when you will be glad that you wore a LEGIT helmet and not one from the toy store because it’s on discount.
One more VERY important thing is to never try to catch your self with your hands. That will just snap your wrist like a twig. Although that instinct is already there when you were 1 years old,try your VERY BEST to fight it. That is for the sake of your wrist. And always keep your head away from the ground at all times when falling or bailing. Well here is the end, always wear your pads, strap on your brain bucket and ignore those people laughing at you because you look uncool. At the end of the day,the one that will be laughing is you when the guy that laughed at you fractures his knee and can’t skate again.
